Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions

We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.

Welcome to us

Do you want to help build a completely new organization from the ground up with a focus on creating a sustainable and attractive urban environment? Now that we are transitioning to operating our parks and green areas in our district, we are looking for someone to join us on this journey as a park worker.

The Järva district is on an exciting journey of change as we prepare to take over the management of waste collection and the maintenance of parks and green areas in municipal operation. The Järva district consists of the neighborhoods of Akalla, Husby, Kista, Rinkeby, Tensta, Hjulsta, Bromsten, Flysta, Lunda, Sundby, and Solhem, where about 92,000 residents live.

You will be part of the new unit for the management of parks and green areas, which together with the unit for urban environment is part of the area of urban development. The unit will consist of three team leaders and a team of gardeners and park workers led by a unit manager. The group will be based in a shared operational facility with other colleagues from the urban development area. Operations will begin on a smaller scale from July 2025 and will run parallel to the existing operational contract in the district. From October 2025, the unit will take over the management of waste collection and maintenance of parks and green areas in its entirety. Winter road maintenance will not be included in the unit's operational assignment.

We have high ambitions to develop the district's public outdoor environments and look forward to having you on this journey! Warm welcome to submit your application!

We offer

For us, it is important to have fun at work! You will be part of an engaged workplace with a strong focus on the residents of Järva. Our operations are characterized by collaboration, courage, empathy, and respectful treatment. You will be offered good employment benefits such as professional development, wellness grants, and vacation exchange. Please read more about our benefits and working in the City of Stockholm.

Your role

As a park worker, you contribute to creating a well-maintained and pleasant environment for the residents of Järva with the goal of working long-term, sustainably, and circularly. Together with the other park workers and two gardeners in the unit, you form the park group and have daily dialogue with the three team leaders of the operational area.

The unit for the management of parks and green areas is a developing operation. Here you have an opportunity to influence the development of the new unit by contributing your knowledge and making improvement suggestions. Together, you will focus on designing effective and climate-smart working methods and a sustainable operation that provides value for the residents and the environment in Järva.

Your tasks will vary throughout the year and may include:

  • maintenance of green areas, such as lawn mowing and weeding
  • waste collection
  • pruning of trees and shrubs
  • hedge trimming
  • planting trees, shrubs, perennials, and more
  • patrolling and supervising playgrounds, dog parks, outdoor gyms, and more
  • maintaining and repairing park and playground equipment.

Since a large part of the work is outdoors, it is important that you enjoy working outside regardless of the weather. Both the role and the unit are new and under development, which means that other tasks may occur. You will have fixed working hours, and weekend work may occur in connection with holidays and during the peak season.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • documented and current experience of practical work with green area maintenance
  • current experience of working with riding lawnmowers and handheld machines such as trimmers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers
  • a B driver's license for cars
  • communication skills in Swedish.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • post-secondary education in, for example, horticulture or landscaping, or other education that the employer deems suitable for the position
  • experience and knowledge of nature conservation maintenance
  • knowledge of and interest in working climate-consciously and circularly with green issues
  • experience and certification for using chainsaws and brush cutters
  • knowledge of maintenance of handheld machines
  • knowledge in craft services, such as carpentry, welding, and painting
  • training in playground safety, SS-EN 1176 and SS-EN 16630 for outdoor gyms
  • proficiency in other languages besides Swedish and English.

As a park worker, you meet the residents of Järva daily and are the face of the district. Therefore, good service and a pleasant demeanor are a given for you, and you are driven to create pleasant and well-maintained outdoor environments. You are resilient and work independently, enjoying working outdoors. You thrive in teamwork with colleagues and have the ability to easily adapt to changing tasks and priorities.

We place great importance on personal qualities, motivation, and commitment to the position!

Other

You do not need to attach a cover letter in this recruitment process; however, we want you to answer the questions that you will encounter when you submit your application. Your answers to the questions will form the basis for the first selection.

Probationary employment may be applied. The City of Stockholm works with competency-based recruitment aimed at recognizing each person's competence and thereby counteracting discrimination.

Welcome to the Järva district administration!
